    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                The Honorable Wilbur Claude Davis, Jr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The State of Texas lost one of its most
    1-6  distinguished legal scholars and jurists with the death of
    1-7  Wilbur Claude Davis, Jr., who died April 5, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born on September 13, 1922, in Bryan, Judge Davis
    1-9  graduated from Baylor Law School in 1948 before establishing a
   1-10  civil and criminal law practice in Bryan; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Noted for his fairness and impartiality, Judge Davis
   1-12  served with great distinction as a Bryan municipal court judge, as
   1-13  Brazos County judge, and as judge of the 85th Judicial District
   1-14  Court before his appointment to the Texas Court of Criminal
   1-15  Appeals in 1978; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, During his 13 years on the Court of Criminal
   1-17  Appeals, Judge Davis worked tirelessly to improve the criminal
   1-18  justice system; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, A dedicated Christian layman, Judge Davis led the
   1-20  Businessmen's Bible Class at the First Baptist Church of Bryan for
   1-21  many years; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Public-spirited and determined to better his
   1-23  community, Judge Davis was a member of the Brazos Lions Club,
    2-1  the Brazos Valley Development Council, Bryan City Mission, the
    2-2  Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post
    2-3  159, and Brazos Union Masonic Lodge 129; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Unfailingly courteous and considerate in his
    2-5  dealings with others, Judge Davis was a gentleman in the truest
    2-6  sense of the word; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, His wisdom and warm spirit will be deeply missed
    2-8  and remembered with gratitude by all who knew him; now, therefore,
    2-9  be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-12  members of his family:  his wife, Mary Louise Jones Davis; his
   2-13  son, William Craig Davis; his sister, Leila Davis Craddock; his
   2-14  grandsons, Jefferson Davis and Dean Davis; and his granddaughter,
   2-15  Amanda Davis; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-17  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-18  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-19  in memory of the Honorable Wilbur Claude Davis, Jr.
