    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is honored today
    1-3  to have Marilyn Barry, sponsor of the Newton High School Drug Free
    1-4  Youth In Texas Club, as a visitor in the Senate; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mrs. Barry began her exceptional career with the
    1-6  Newton Independent School District in the early 1980s as a teacher
    1-7  of art and English and as the curriculum coordinator at Newton High
    1-8  School; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A gifted and dedicated teacher, Marilyn Barry
   1-10  was an enthusiastic educator who distinguished herself in her
   1-11  profession; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, She consistently manifested a genuine concern for
   1-13  the students and was active in most facets of their school life;
   1-14  she was a Newton High School counselor, worked on the annual staff,
   1-15  and served as an Academic University Interscholastic League sponsor
   1-16  and as a Student Council sponsor; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Mrs. Barry organized the Drug Free Youth In
   1-18  Texas Club at Newton High School several years ago and is well
   1-19  known for the time and energy she has devoted to lectures and
   1-20  programs on the club in numerous communities; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, She retired from Newton High School
   1-22  February 1, 1993, but continues to take an active interest
   1-23  in the students and in helping schools across the state to maintain
    2-1  effective drug-free programs; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, An exemplary woman of uncommon generosity,
    2-3  Marilyn Barry is beloved by the students at Newton High School
    2-4  and by her colleagues, and she has made many worthy contributions
    2-5  to the state's drug-free programs; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Marilyn Barry
    2-8  for her many accomplishments in the field of education and in the
    2-9  battle against drugs and extend best wishes to her for the retirement
   2-10  years ahead; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-12  as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
