    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Dora Isabell Wynn
    1-5        WHEREAS, The recent passing of Dora Isabell Wynn on
    1-6  March 26, 1993, has brought a great loss to her many friends and
    1-7  family, as well as to all the members of her community who were
    1-8  touched by this fine woman's generosity and kindness; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A native and lifelong resident of Tyler, Ms. Wynn
   1-10  received her bachelor's degree from Texas College and her master's
   1-11  degree from Colorado State A&M University, and she taught for many
   1-12  years in the Tyler Independent School District and at Texas College
   1-13  before retiring in 1970; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, One of Tyler's most distinguished civic leaders,
   1-15  Ms. Wynn was instrumental in establishing the Tyler Commission for
   1-16  Women; she further drew upon her leadership skills and vision as
   1-17  president of the Negro Business Women's Club and as a board member
   1-18  of both the North Tyler Young Men's Christian Association and the
   1-19  North Tyler Day Nursery; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Wynn was a committed volunteer
   1-21  with many charitable and community organizations, including the
   1-22  Red Cross, United Way, the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, Girl
   1-23  Scouts, the League of Women Voters, and the National PTA; a devout
    2-1  Christian, Ms. Wynn still found time in her busy schedule to teach
    2-2  Sunday school at True Vine Baptist Church; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, This remarkable individual's compassion and
    2-4  generosity earned her statewide recognition in 1983 when Governor
    2-5  Mark White honored her for Exceptional Distinguished Volunteer
    2-6  Service; in addition, she was honored by her peers in the Tyler-area
    2-7  women's service clubs when they named her the 1992 Tyler Woman of
    2-8  the Year; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Ms. Wynn also was an esteemed member of several
   2-10  prominent organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
   2-11  Incorporated, Top Ladies of Distinction, Collegiate Club,
   2-12  Phi Delta Phi, and the National Council of Negro Women, and her many
   2-13  friends and colleagues in these organizations will miss both her
   2-14  companionship and her tireless efforts on their behalf; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, In serving her family, her church, and her
   2-16  community, this extraordinary woman gave selflessly to those around
   2-17  her and left them with a legacy of love and compassion by which to
   2-18  remember her; Ms. Wynn truly exemplified the ideals of Christina
   2-19  faith and charity, and her unique spirit will surely live on in the
   2-20  hearts of the many people whose lives she touched; now, therefore,
   2-21  be it
   2-22        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-23  73rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dora Isabell Wynn
   2-24  and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family:  her son,
   2-25  the Reverend Dr. Brady O. Hopper of Phoenix, Arizona; her
    3-1  granddaughters, Carolyn Hopper and Patricia Hopper, both of
    3-2  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her former daughter-in-law,
    3-3  Betty Hopper Weaver, also of Philadelphia; and all the friends and
    3-4  relatives of this beloved woman; and, be it further
    3-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
    3-6  prepared for the members of her family as an expression of deepest
    3-7  sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns
    3-8  this day, it do so in memory of Dora Isabell Wynn.
