No. 801 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The people of West Texas are known for their 1-3 longevity and an excellent example of this is Mrs. Irene Duncan, 1-4 who is celebrating her 100th birthday on May 6, 1993; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in Hope, Texas, in Lavaca County, on 1-6 May 6th, 1893, Irene Whitley was one of five children born to 1-7 Ara Speaks Whitley and James Whitley; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Irene Whitley married Alexander Ellison in 1908 in 1-9 DeWitt County; they were farmers until the drought caused them to 1-10 lose everything; they moved around finding work where they could; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, They moved to San Angelo in 1928 where she still 1-13 resides; mother to Clarence, Lula Mae, Beryl, Myrtle Jean, and 1-14 Albert Ray, she has 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1-15 and 19 great-great-grandchildren; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Through the years, Irene Duncan has worked in a 1-17 laundry for 10 cents an hour during the Depression, on a farm, and 1-18 at a restaurant in World War II; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Irene Duncan has been places and seen things that 1-20 most of us only read about; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Living on her own and still an active and vital 1-22 member of her community, Mrs. Duncan is known for her exemplary 1-23 enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, The Senate of the State of Texas, 73rd Legislature, 2-2 hereby congratulate and commend Mrs. Irene Duncan on the momentous 2-3 occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-5 Irene Duncan as an expression of esteem and admiration from the 2-6 Texas Senate. 2-7 _____________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the 2-10 above Resolution was adopted by 2-11 the Senate on April 29, 1993. 2-12 _____________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
