    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, One of Georgetown's most beloved citizens,
    1-3  Leslie Zalles, is the recent winner of the Service to Mankind Award
    1-4  from the Georgetown Sertoma Club; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mrs. Zalles has faithfully served her community as
    1-6  a full-time volunteer since 1983; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Her gracious manner and professional knowledge
    1-8  have earned her the respect and admiration of her associates; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A former missionary, Mrs. Zalles donates all
   1-10  of her time to various organizations; she spends countless hours
   1-11  making welcomed personal visits and phone calls to shut-ins; for
   1-12  them, Leslie Zalles may be the only concerned human being with
   1-13  whom they can have a conversation; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Mrs. Zalles donates between 15 and 20 hours a
   1-15  week to The Caring Place; in her position there, she screens
   1-16  clients to determine their needs, and then fills those needs even
   1-17  though what is needed may be food, clothing, a job, or money for
   1-18  gas or utilities; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Mrs. Zalles's fluency in Spanish is helpful in
   1-20  dealing with many of the clients she sees; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, In addition, she works tirelessly for the
   1-22  First United Methodist Church as a one-woman welcome wagon;
   1-23  she acts as the membership secretary for 1,400 members and
    2-1  monitors those shut-ins or nursing home residents in need of
    2-2  pastoral care; her work serves to make life more pleasant for
    2-3  many residents of Georgetown, and she is indeed worthy of
    2-4  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and congratulate Leslie Zalles
    2-7  on her selection as winner of the Service to Mankind Award from
    2-8  the Georgetown Sertoma Club; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  this gentle and caring woman as an expression of respect and
   2-11  admiration from the Texas Senate.
