By: Zaffirini S.R. No. 806 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize the newly organized John B. Alexander High School of 1-4 Laredo, Texas, on the grand occasion of its Ground-Breaking Ceremony 1-5 which is being held April 30, 1993; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The John B. Alexander High School is named for a 1-7 former Laredoan, John Alexander, who was killed during World War II 1-8 on a battlefield in Normandy, France; and 1-9 WHEREAS, John Alexander graduated from Laredo High School in 1-10 1936 and received a law degree from Cumberland University Law School 1-11 in Tennessee; and 1-12 WHEREAS, On a battlefield during the Normandy campaign, 1-13 John Alexander confided to his longtime friend and former high 1-14 school classmate, Manuel Martinez, of his desire to return to 1-15 Laredo and help modernize and improve the city; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Though John Alexander was wounded in battle, he 1-17 refused to leave the battlefield, continuing to fight until he 1-18 died; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Brave and patriotic, John Alexander was a war hero 1-20 whose dreams of returning to his homeland ended with his tragic 1-21 death; and 1-22 WHEREAS, It is appropriate that the City of Laredo 1-23 pay tribute to the life and memory of this fine citizen, and 2-1 John Alexander would be proud today to know that a high school in 2-2 his hometown had been named in his honor; and 2-3 WHEREAS, John Alexander's mother and sisters have saluted his 2-4 memory by donating family land for the new high school, and their 2-5 generous gift will undoubtedly be a tremendous benefit to many 2-6 young Laredoans for years to come; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 73rd Legislature, hereby join with the family and friends of 2-9 John Alexander and with the citizens of Laredo in paying tribute 2-10 to his life; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-12 the family of John Alexander as an expression of esteem and best 2-13 wishes from the Texas Senate. 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the 2-17 above Resolution was adopted by 2-18 the Senate on April 29, 1993. 2-19 _____________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
