    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Reagan Houston III
    1-5        WHEREAS, The City of San Antonio lost one of its most
    1-6  respected civic and business leaders with the death of
    1-7  Reagan Houston III on September 18, 1992; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A native Texan, this distinguished gentleman was
    1-9  born in San Antonio on February 25, 1917, the son of Ettie Kincaid
   1-10  and Reagan Houston, Jr.; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, After attending public schools in San Antonio,
   1-12  Mr. Houston furthered his education at Virginia Military Institute
   1-13  and the University of London School of Economics before receiving
   1-14  his law degree from The University of Texas at Austin; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Imbued with a deep love of country, he gallantly
   1-16  served his country during World War II; an aide to
   1-17  General Mark Clark, he achieved the rank of colonel before leaving
   1-18  the army after the war; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Returning to San Antonio, he practiced law for
   1-20  30 years before becoming chairman of the board and chief executive
   1-21  officer of Alamo National Bank; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Public spirited and determined to do his best
   1-23  to address the needs of his fellow citizens, Mr. Houston served
    2-1  as chairman of the Board of Regents of Texas Woman's University,
    2-2  as chairman of the Texas Department of Highways and Public
    2-3  Transportation, and as a member of the Joint Advisory Committee
    2-4  on Government Operations for the State of Texas; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A trustee of the San Antonio Medical Foundation
    2-6  and director emeritus of the Development Board of the Institute of
    2-7  Texan Cultures, Mr. Houston also lent his wisdom and wise counsel
    2-8  to the Southwest Research Institute and United Way; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, he enjoyed
   2-10  ranching and flying; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, His honor and integrity knew no bounds, and he
   2-12  will be remembered as a respected man of high moral principle; now,
   2-13  therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-15  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
   2-16  of his family:  his wife, Mary Jane; his sons, Reagan Houston IV
   2-17  and Lyles Houston; and his four grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-19  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-20  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-21  so in memory of Reagan Houston III.
