No. 812 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Charley Pope 1-5 WHEREAS, The citizens of Lubbock lost one of the city's most 1-6 esteemed and well-known residents with the death of Charley Pope 1-7 on April 8, 1993; and 1-8 WHEREAS, His genuine warmth and good humor will be missed by 1-9 his many friends; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Pope was distinguished among Lubbock citizens 1-11 for his contributions of his time and energy to civic affairs as 1-12 well as for his business leadership; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A native of Sudan, Texas, Charley Pope graduated 1-14 from Texas Tech University and filled his life with devoted service 1-15 to his family, his friends, and his community; and 1-16 WHEREAS, President of the former First Federal Savings and 1-17 Loan Association and a consultant for Plains National Bank, Mr. Pope 1-18 earned the respect and confidence of the Lubbock community; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In addition to his business responsibilities, 1-20 Charley Pope took great interest in civic organizations devoted to 1-21 the betterment of Lubbock; he freely gave his talents to the Lubbock 1-22 Arts Festival and Symphony Orchestra, Civic Lubbock, Incorporated, 1-23 the American Cancer Society, and the Texas Tech Center for 2-1 Professional Development; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A staunch proponent of the city's law enforcement, 2-3 he spent 10 years as president of the nonprofit Crime Line, 2-4 Incorporated, publicizing the project that rewarded tips leading to 2-5 felony arrests and raising money when it needed funds; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Pope's participation in these organizations 2-7 was a significant asset in their growth and development, and his 2-8 wise counsel and sound judgement will be deeply missed; and 2-9 WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment 2-10 that will be cherished by those who were privileged to know him; 2-11 now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family 2-14 of Charley Pope: his wife, Elaine; his son, Brett; his daughter, 2-15 Staci; his mother, Beulah Pope; and his brother, Claud; and, be it 2-16 further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 2-19 the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do 2-20 so in memory of Charley Pope. 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the 2-24 above Resolution was adopted by 2-25 the Senate on April 30, 1993, 3-1 by a rising vote. 3-2 _____________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 _____________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
