    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, With the natural beauty of the San Marcos River, a
    1-3  historic downtown area, and a wealth of shopping possibilities
    1-4  available to interested sightseers, the vibrant City of San Marcos
    1-5  is in a prime position for the introduction of a bold new program
    1-6  to showcase Texas-grown and Texas-manufactured products; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, "San Marcos, A Texas Natural!" represents
    1-8  a combined effort to revitalize the city's historic downtown
    1-9  area and to stimulate the local economy by promoting Texas goods;
   1-10  contributing organizations that have played a vital role in bringing
   1-11  this unique program to fruition include the Texas Department of
   1-12  Agriculture, Hays County, the City of San Marcos, the Main Street
   1-13  Project, the Downtown Association, the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce,
   1-14  the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Greater San Marcos Economic
   1-15  Development Council, the Convention and Visitors Bureau,
   1-16  Southwest Texas State University, and local realtors and
   1-17  financial institutions; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, In addition to the contributions that this dynamic
   1-19  new program will make to the local economy, the program also will
   1-20  benefit Texas artisans and craftspersons by providing them with new
   1-21  outlets for their work as the business sector of the community
   1-22  unites to increase Texas-made items in its current inventory of
   1-23  retail products; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The city plans to incorporate four targeted programs
    2-2  of the Texas Department of Agriculture's "Make It Texas" concept
    2-3  in its implementation of the "San Marcos, A Texas Natural!"
    2-4  project:  nurserymen and landscapers are marketing products as
    2-5  "Texas Grown," garments made from Texas-grown fibers, such as
    2-6  cotton, mohair, and wool, are carrying tags indicating their
    2-7  Texas origin, participating restaurants will offer "totally
    2-8  Texas Menus," and the "Taste of Texas" logo is already being
    2-9  featured on items in many grocery stores and gift shops; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Benefitting both the City of San Marcos and the
   2-11  Texas economy as a whole through the creation of a new and distinct
   2-12  market for Texas goods, the "San Marcos, A Texas Natural!" program
   2-13  is truly worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore,
   2-14  be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  73rd Legislature, hereby commend the organizers of the "San Marcos,
   2-17  A Texas Natural!" program for the vital contributions they are making
   2-18  to the continued economic prosperity of this great state; and, be
   2-19  it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-21  City of San Marcos as an expression of high regard from the
   2-22  Texas Senate.
