No. 815 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 extend a warm Texas welcome to Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, the 1-4 Executive Governor of Enugu State of Nigeria, who is visiting 1-5 the Lone Star State; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The distinguished doctor is a member of the 1-7 economic mission to the United States from Enugu State of Nigeria 1-8 whose primary focus is to initiate the establishment of a 1-9 "Technical Cooperation and Exchanges Program" between the two 1-10 countries as an economic agenda; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The program is designed to promote a Free Enterprise 1-12 Development Business Incubator in Enugu State of Nigeria as a dynamic 1-13 way of expanding the American market into Africa and to encourage 1-14 American small and medium enterprises, especially minority 1-15 businesses, to work directly with their counterparts in Nigeria for 1-16 private-sector-oriented economic development; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo was born on July 28, 1950, 1-18 into the royal family of the late Igwe Chief Dr. John Nwodo of Ukehe 1-19 in Igbo-etiti, local government area of Enugu State; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Dr. Nwodo attended Saint Patrick's Primary School 1-21 Iva-Valley and Holy Ghost Primary School Ogui in Enugu before 1-22 graduating to the Federal Government College in Umuahia; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The maturity and astuteness he displayed in the 2-1 college earned him the privileged position of college prefect as 2-2 well as the leadership of various social and cultural organizations; 2-3 and 2-4 WHEREAS, After graduating from the University of Nigeria, 2-5 Nsukka, he traveled to London, England, where he studied basic 2-6 medical sciences at the Royal College of Surgeons prior to entering 2-7 the University of Belgrade in Yugoslavia for a specialist course in 2-8 pediatric surgery; he graduated with distinction in 1984; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The widely recognized surgeon has had a wide range 2-10 of experience in his profession since 1977 and has earned the 2-11 admiration and respect of his colleagues; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Since his election as governor, Dr. Nwodo has 2-13 focused his energies on the Technical Cooperation and Exchanges 2-14 Program to ensure its establishment for future growth and prosperity 2-15 in his country; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 73rd Legislature, hereby express its warmest regards to 2-18 Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo and extend best wishes to him for a most 2-19 rewarding visit to Texas and the United States. 2-20 _____________________________________ 2-21 President of the Senate 2-22 I hereby certify that the 2-23 above Resolution was adopted by 2-24 the Senate on May 3, 1993. 2-25 _____________________________________ 3-1 Secretary of the Senate 3-2 _____________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate 3-4 _____________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
