    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The citizens of Brenham and Washington County
    1-3  will miss the invaluable service of James Fathauer who is retiring
    1-4  from the Brenham Fire Department April 30, 1993, after a remarkable
    1-5  career spanning more than 35 years as a fireman; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Joining the department in 1954 as a volunteer,
    1-7  Mr. Fathauer inherited a love of firefighting from his father who
    1-8  was a volunteer firefighter; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, After completing his military service, Mr. Fathauer
   1-10  returned to Brenham in 1960 and resumed his work as a fireman in a
   1-11  paid position, living in an apartment over the fire station; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Numerous changes have occurred in the fire department
   1-13  over the years, most notably the increased emphasis on the training
   1-14  and technology available for the firefighter; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The Fireman's Training Center was built in 1984
   1-16  to provide a place for all 11 fire departments in the county to train;
   1-17  Mr. Fathauer helped donate funds, time, and equipment and helped wire
   1-18  the center; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, One of the department's nine officers, Mr. Fathauer
   1-20  is responsible for getting equipment and trucks to a fire and
   1-21  maintaining supplies and equipment; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, His meritorious work and exemplary devotion to his
   1-23  profession have earned him the admiration and esteem of the citizens
    2-1  of Brenham; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, The residents of Washington County are truly
    2-3  blessed to have had such an able and hardworking public servant who
    2-4  has dedicated his life to their protection and safety; now, therefore,
    2-5  be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby commend James Fathauer for the diligence
    2-8  and ability he has displayed in the performance of his duties with
    2-9  the Brenham Fire Department; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-11  Mr. Fathauer as an expression of the gratitude of the Texas Senate
   2-12  with best wishes for a most rewarding retirement.
