No. 824 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Mexia, Texas, will sorely miss the wisdom and 1-3 expertise of Assistant City Secretary Mary Jones, who is retiring 1-4 after 17 years of loyal and superb city service; and 1-5 WHEREAS, An exemplary civil servant, this dynamic lady 1-6 discharged her duties in a most conscientious manner; and 1-7 WHEREAS, After graduating from Groesbeck High School, 1-8 the future Mrs. Jones worked for about two years for 1-9 Representative Robin Henderson; she moved to Dallas in 1949, 1-10 where she met Jesse Jones; in 1950 they were married; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mary stayed home with their three children until 1-12 the death of her husband in 1976; she began her career with the 1-13 City of Mexia that same year; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In the beginning she kept the books and collected 1-15 taxes for the City of Mexia; when Limestone Appraisal District 1-16 assumed Mexia's tax collection, Mrs. Jones began working more as 1-17 a city secretary; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of Mrs. Jones 1-19 have contributed greatly to the growth and progress of her town; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, A devout Christian and a vital and active member 1-22 of her community, this selfless individual has donated her time 1-23 and energies to the First Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 73rd Legislature, hereby commend Mary Jones for her superlative 2-3 career of service and dedication to the people of Mexia and of 2-4 Texas; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared, under 2-6 the Seal of the Senate, as an expression of highest regard from 2-7 the Texas Senate. 2-8 _____________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the 2-11 above Resolution was adopted by 2-12 the Senate on May 3, 1993. 2-13 _____________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 _____________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
