1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory
1-3 of
1-4 Vincent Gonzalez
1-5 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Vincent Gonzalez
1-6 of Brownsville deeply mourn his death on April 24, 1993; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Born in Robstown, he grew up in Corpus Christi
1-8 and had lived in Brownsville for 47 years; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Employed by the Brownsville Independent School
1-10 District for 25 years, he taught at Homer Hanna and Gladys Porter
1-11 high schools; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Courageous and patriotic, Mr. Gonzalez joined
1-13 the United States Navy when he was 16 in order to fight for his
1-14 country; and
1-15 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Gonzalez was an active
1-16 member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; and
1-17 WHEREAS, A renowned civic leader, he volunteered much of
1-18 his time to worthy causes; he was a member of the American Legion,
1-19 helped handicapped children through the Corpus Christi Shriners,
1-20 taught with the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program at his
1-21 church, and served as basketball coach for his church's team; and
1-22 WHEREAS, This respected gentleman's notable achievements
1-23 greatly influenced the welfare and progress of his city and his
2-1 state; now, therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-3 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
2-4 of his family: his wife, Grace Blanchard Gonzalez; his sons,
2-5 Oscar B. Gonzalez, Rene B. Gonzalez, and Eric B. Gonzalez; his
2-6 daughter, Irma B. Gonzalez; his mother, Natividad Gonzalez; his
2-7 sister, Josephine Gonzalez; his brothers, Jose and Roberto Gonzalez;
2-8 and his five grandchildren; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-10 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-11 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
2-12 it do so in memory of Vincent Gonzalez.
