    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
    1-3  in recognizing Edward "Chief" Johnson who has been selected for
    1-4  the 1993 Citizen of the Year Award by the Fairfield Chamber of
    1-5  Commerce; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Chief Johnson is well known for his outstanding
    1-7  work in the Fairfield community; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson retired from Fairfield Independent
    1-9  School District after a 35-year teaching and coaching career; he
   1-10  joined the Freestone County  Sheriff's Department in 1970 as a
   1-11  reserve deputy and rose to the rank of sergeant; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, A dedicated and active volunteer, Chief Johnson
   1-13  has provided security for a number of years at almost every
   1-14  school function in the Fairfield Independent School District
   1-15  and has devoted thousands of hours to a multitude of law
   1-16  enforcement assignments, all without remuneration; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A highly respected community leader who
   1-18  generously devotes time and energy to civic affairs, Mr. Johnson
   1-19  is a Democratic Party precinct chairman, a member of the Fairfield
   1-20  Independent School District board of trustees, and a member of
   1-21  several boards at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Chief Johnson's concern for others is legendary
   1-23  and he has played a major role in the betterment of the Fairfield
    2-1  community; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson is an exemplary citizen who is beloved
    2-3  by many, and his worthy accomplishments reflect his dedication and
    2-4  his commitment to his fellowman; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Edward "Chief" Johnson on his
    2-7  exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to him on his
    2-8  selection as Citizen of the Year; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  him as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
