1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory
1-3 of
1-4 Hazel Adams Richardson
1-5 WHEREAS, The City of Bryan lost one of its most respected
1-6 and well-loved citizens with the death of Hazel Adams Richardson
1-7 who died April 12, 1993, at the age of 80; and
1-8 WHEREAS, She was distinguished among Bryan residents for her
1-9 contributions of her time and energy to the Bryan Public Library
1-10 where she served as librarian from 1961 to 1978; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Her dedication to the children and adults of the
1-12 city resulted in the approval of a $400,000 bond issue in 1967
1-13 to build a new library building; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Through her untiring efforts, she was able to
1-15 establish the genealogy collection, the F. Law Henderson Texas
1-16 Collection, the Anna Ludmilla Gee Ballet Collection, and the
1-17 Brazos County Law Library; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Born into a prominent Bryan family, Hazel Richardson
1-19 was the daughter of George E. Adams, a former mayor and city
1-20 commissioner; he served in the Texas House of Representatives in
1-21 1945 and had been acting director of the Texas Agricultural
1-22 Extension Service; and
1-23 WHEREAS, She was a fourth generation Texan and the
2-1 great-granddaughter of George Resley, early Texas surveyor, scout,
2-2 and Indian fighter; and
2-3 WHEREAS, Born in Chireno on October 28, 1912, Hazel Richardson
2-4 received her education from The University of Texas where she earned
2-5 her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees; she received a
2-6 master of library science degree from Louisiana State University;
2-7 and
2-8 WHEREAS, Her love for her community was reflected in her
2-9 involvement in many civic organizations that were devoted to the
2-10 improvement of the lives of others and to her interest in history;
2-11 and
2-12 WHEREAS, She was a member of the American Association of
2-13 University Women, Woman's Civic League, National League of American
2-14 Pen Women, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the
2-15 Republic of Texas, and Daughters of the American Revolution; and
2-16 WHEREAS, Her talent as a storyteller surpassed the writers
2-17 of the books she read to children on Saturday mornings at the old
2-18 Carnegie Library and at the modern public library she helped build;
2-19 and
2-20 WHEREAS, This generous and gracious lady will be deeply
2-21 missed by citizens from all walks of life who were touched by her
2-22 gifts of friendship and the love of literature; now, therefore,
2-23 be it
2-24 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-25 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
3-1 members of Hazel Marie Adams Richardson: her son,
3-2 George Adams Richardson; her sisters, Emily Lyne and Jane Lott;
3-3 her sister-in-law, Mrs. John C. Adams; and her two granddaughters,
3-4 Lauren Richardson and Emily Richardson; and, be it further
3-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
3-6 members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
3-7 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
3-8 in memory of Hazel Marie Richardson.
