    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                     Mattie Grace McWhorter Fannin
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  family and friends of Mattie Grace McWhorter Fannin in mourning
    1-7  the loss of this beloved citizen of Madisonville who died on
    1-8  March 19, 1993; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Known as Miss Grace by almost everyone, this
   1-10  remarkable Texas woman knew all the joys and sorrows of a full
   1-11  lifetime of 91 years; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, During her lifetime she established a permanent place
   1-13  for herself in the hearts of those who knew and worked with her; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, She married Arthur Fannin when she was young; they
   1-15  had a daughter, Oleta, who died when she was 12 years old, and two
   1-16  sons, James and Kenneth; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Both James and Kenneth became physicians, a fact of
   1-18  which Miss Grace was immensely proud; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Active in numerous civic endeavors Miss Grace
   1-20  was instrumental in getting both the American Legion Hall and
   1-21  Madison County Hospital built; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mrs. Fannin was dedicated to
   1-23  her belief in God and her commitment to her church; she taught
    2-1  Sunday School until she could no longer read because of failing
    2-2  eyesight; she made nursing home visits and taught Bible classes to
    2-3  patients who were often younger than she was; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Throughout her life, ranching had been important
    2-5  to her; she was active in the family flour and feed business; she
    2-6  continued ranching well into her retirement; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, Miss Grace leaves behind
    2-8  a legacy of love and compassion; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to her sons,
   2-11  Dr. James Fannin and Dr. Kenneth Fannin; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-13  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-14  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it so
   2-15  in memory of Mattie Grace McWhorter Fannin.
