No. 844 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Janice Hensen 1-5 WHEREAS, One of Brenham's most beloved citizens, 1-6 Janice Hensen, was the recent posthumous honoree when the 1-7 Fortnightly Club of Brenham bestowed its Outstanding Clubwoman 1-8 Volunteer of 1992 award on her; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hensen was a Brenham native, a junior Maifest 1-10 queen, and a Brenham High School and Baylor University graduate; 1-11 after her marriage to Ernest Hensen, she was active in many Houston 1-12 organizations; and 1-13 WHEREAS, While raising their children, Janice Hensen served 1-14 as a girl scout leader and officer in Saint Anne's Catholic School 1-15 Parent-Teacher Association; other civic involvements included 1-16 volunteer activities as secretary of Women of Rotary and work with 1-17 Past Presidents of Transportation Club of Houston; and 1-18 WHEREAS, When Janice Hensen returned to Brenham she became 1-19 a member of Fortnightly, thus beginning a period of dedicated civic 1-20 service; and 1-21 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Janice Hensen was an active 1-22 member of the First Baptist Church; she was a lifetime member of 1-23 Baylor University Alumni, The University of Texas Ex-Students 2-1 Association, the Heritage Society of Washington County, and the 2-2 Gun and Rod Club of Brenham; and 2-3 WHEREAS, A tireless volunteer, this outstanding citizen 2-4 was involved in numerous community organizations; she was 2-5 president-elect of Fortnightly and immediate past president of 2-6 its Education Department which donated time to registering the 2-7 several hundred students in Brenham community education and had 2-8 established community education scholarships; and 2-9 WHEREAS, She was an advisor in developing the Project 2-10 Learning Enrichment Alternative Program for at-risk high school 2-11 students; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hensen combined her recycling projects with 2-13 those of the Bluebonnet Gardening Club planting projects and 2-14 shared her extensive personal knowledge and immense book and 2-15 magazine collection with others whose interests she shared; her 2-16 name has been entered through the Texas Federation of Women's 2-17 Clubs as a nominee for Outstanding Clubwoman Volunteer; now, 2-18 therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 73rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Janice Hensen 2-21 for her important contributions to her town and state and extend 2-22 sincere condolences to the members of her family: her husband, 2-23 Ernest Hensen; and her children, Lisa Wood, Charlie Hensen, 2-24 Marianne Johnson, and Jack Hensen; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-1 the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy 3-2 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 3-3 it do so in memory of Janice Hensen. 3-4 _____________________________________ 3-5 President of the Senate 3-6 I hereby certify that the 3-7 above Resolution was adopted by 3-8 the Senate on May 4, 1993, by 3-9 a rising vote. 3-10 _____________________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 _____________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate
