No. 852 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud 1-3 to recognize Keelie Noelle Taylor on her selection as a 1-4 United States National Award winner in English, speech, and 1-5 drama; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The United States National Award is a prestigious 1-7 honor which few students attain; the academy recognizes less than 1-8 10 percent of all American high school students; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Keelie attends Floresville High School and was 1-10 nominated for the award by Ms. Laskowski and Ms. Reed, English and 1-11 drama teachers at the school; she also qualified as a scholar at 1-12 large; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The standards of selection set forth by the 1-14 academy for choosing award winners are a student's academic 1-15 performance, interest, aptitude, leadership qualities, 1-16 responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, 1-17 citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, and dependability; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, As a United States National Award winner, Keelie 1-20 will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official 1-21 Yearbook; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A versatile and talented student, Keelie is 1-23 a member of the National Honor Society, has participated in 2-1 University Interscholastic League competition in One-Act Play and 2-2 current events, and enjoys her work as a part-time employee; and 2-3 WHEREAS, At a time of rising dropout rates and illiteracy, 2-4 it is a pleasure to recognize those tenacious, goal-oriented young 2-5 people who are willing to channel their mental energies in the 2-6 pursuit of excellence; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Keelie's award indicates that she has successfully 2-8 met her challenges, and her investment of time, talent, and effort 2-9 deserve public acknowledgement and commendation; now, therefore, 2-10 be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Keelie Taylor for winning 2-13 the United States National Award in English, speech, and drama and 2-14 wish her much success in the future; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-16 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-17 _____________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the 2-20 above Resolution was adopted by 2-21 the Senate on May 5, 1993. 2-22 _____________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 _____________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
