    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
    1-3  in recognizing Harriette Williford Whatley who was selected as the
    1-4  recipient of the Council of Honor award for 1993; the award was given
    1-5  by a private organization of citizens who periodically recognize
    1-6  persons who have made significant contributions to their
    1-7  community and state; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Only the third woman to receive this award,
    1-9  Mrs. Whatley has served as a member and officer of numerous area
   1-10  and statewide organizations; she has served as president of the Texas
   1-11  Federation of Women's Clubs, General Federation of Women's Clubs,
   1-12  General Federation of Women's Clubs Fairfield History Club, and
   1-13  General Federation of Women's Clubs South Central Conference
   1-14  for Seven States; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, An outstanding community leader, Mrs. Whatley
   1-16  has served as vice-president for women's activities of the Texas
   1-17  Safety Association, as president of Westminster College Ex-Students
   1-18  Association, and as a member of the board of directors of the
   1-19  Beautify Texas Council; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, She currently serves on the State Library
   1-21  Commission, is chairman of the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs
   1-22  State Legislative Committee, and is an honorary member of the
   1-23  Parliamentary Law Club of Dallas; she is a member of the Freestone
    2-1  County Historical Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
    2-2  5872 Ladies Auxiliary; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A dedicated and hardworking woman, Mrs. Whatley has
    2-4  devoted countless hours to volunteer work, and she is recognized
    2-5  throughout the state for her invaluable leadership; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Mrs. Whatley's concern for others is legendary, and
    2-7  she has played a major role in the betterment of the Fairfield
    2-8  community and the State of Texas; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady,
   2-10  Harriette Whatley is a source of strength to many and her worthy
   2-11  accomplishments reflect her dedication and her commitment to her
   2-12  fellowman and to the future of our state; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Harriette Whatley on her exceptional
   2-15  achievements and extend congratulations to her on her selection for
   2-16  this special honor; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-18  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
