No. 867 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 recognize Mr. and Mrs. Tom Paben for winning first prize in the 1-4 1992 National Corn Yield Contest sponsored by the National Corn 1-5 Growers Association; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The National Corn Growers Association was 1-7 established 28 years ago to recognize farmers who use production 1-8 practices that are designed to increase profitability; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Paben Farms placed first in the state in Class A 1-10 Non-Irrigated using DEKALB DK689; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Each entry was a field of at least 10 acres of 1-12 continuous corn; qualified supervisors were present at harvest 1-13 to ascertain the accuracy of yields; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The average yield of contest entrants was 1-15 183 bushels per acre compared with the national average of 1-16 131 bushels; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Farmers from 46 states submitted 3,495 entries in 1-18 the 1992 contest; now, therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-20 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Tom Paben 1-21 for winning first prize in their category; and, be it further 1-22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 1-23 Mr. and Mrs. Paben as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-1 _____________________________________ 2-2 President of the Senate 2-3 I hereby certify that the 2-4 above Resolution was adopted by 2-5 the Senate on May 5, 1993. 2-6 _____________________________________ 2-7 Secretary of the Senate 2-8 _____________________________________ 2-9 Member, Texas Senate
