    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize Russell L. Palma as winner of the excellence in research
    1-4  award from Sam Houston State University; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Dr. Palma has taught at Sam Houston State University
    1-6  since 1980 and has served as chairman of the Department of Physics
    1-7  since 1990; he is also a senior research associate in chemistry at
    1-8  Texas A&M University; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Dr. Palma received his bachelor's degree in
   1-10  astrophysics from Indiana University in 1974, his master's degree
   1-11  in space physics and astronomy in 1978, and his doctorate in space
   1-12  physics and astronomy in 1980 from Rice University; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, This dedicated scholar has done research on
   1-14  meteorites from the earth and the moon; he has been published
   1-15  22 times in such journals as Lunar and Planetary Science,
   1-16  made 27 research presentations, and received funding for
   1-17  32 research projects conducted primarily at Johnson Space Center,
   1-18  Rice University, Texas A&M University, and Sam Houston State
   1-19  University; now, therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   1-21  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Russell L. Palma on
   1-22  winning the excellence in research award from Sam Houston State
   1-23  University; and, be it further
    2-1        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-2  Dr. Palma as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
