    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, In these days of environmental awareness, it
    1-3  behooves all of us to encourage young people to protect the
    1-4  environment; the values developed today will affect how they
    1-5  care for our fragile planet in the future; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate wants to inspire all students
    1-7  to take an active role in projects that address environmental
    1-8  concerns; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A contest entitled Environmental Challenge
   1-10  sponsored by both H.E.B. and the Texas General Land Office
   1-11  encouraged school classes to compete in three different divisions:
   1-12  kindergarten through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, and
   1-13  ninth through 12th grade; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Environmental school projects concerned water,
   1-15  energy, toxic/hazardous waste, solid waste/recycling, global
   1-16  warming/tree planting, environmental education, agriculture,
   1-17  and any other relevant environmental or natural science topic;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
   1-20  recognize the students of Salado High School who have won second
   1-21  place in the high school division of the H.E.B./General Land Office
   1-22  Environmental Challenge; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, These outstanding students, and their teacher,
    2-1  Kimberly Berg, organized an after school day camp focusing on
    2-2  environmental projects to educate younger students about the
    2-3  need to protect our environment; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Resourceful and enthusiastic high school students
    2-5  can enhance the beauty of their surroundings or help promote the
    2-6  quality of their environment and at the same time learn what a
    2-7  difference they can make; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, It is a highly commendable goal to get students
    2-9  actively interested in the welfare of their community and their
   2-10  state; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby honor the Salado High School teachers
   2-13  and students who participated in the H.E.B./General Land Office
   2-14  Environmental Challenge Day for winning second place in the high
   2-15  school division; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
   2-17  for the winning class as an expression of esteem from the
   2-18  Senate of Texas.
