    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  extend congratulations to Peter M. Holt, B. D. Holt, and the
    1-4  Holt Company of Texas for the company's 60 years of service to
    1-5  the citizens of Texas; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Founded by William K. Holt in 1933, the original
    1-7  store on South Flores Street in San Antonio employed 10 people;
    1-8  between 1938 and 1977, the Holt Company established additional
    1-9  stores in Weslaco, Corpus Christi, Austin, Victoria, Brownsville,
   1-10  Aransas Pass, Edinburg, and Laredo; today it provides employment
   1-11  for over 400 people in nine stores in a 60-county area; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, William Holt's father, Benjamin Holt, developed
   1-13  the first successful track-type tractor in 1904 and was one of
   1-14  the original inductees into the Construction Equipment Hall of
   1-15  Fame; his company was one of two predecessors to Caterpillar
   1-16  Tractor Company; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Holt Company of Texas has the distinction of
   1-18  being the only Caterpillar dealership operated by descendents
   1-19  of Benjamin Holt; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Providing invaluable service to the ranchers of
   1-21  Texas, Holt Company develops and manufactures the Holt root plow
   1-22  and root rake to aid ranchers in controlling mesquite and other
   1-23  brush on millions of acres in South Texas; Holt root plows are
    2-1  sold on four continents; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Holt Company exports millions of dollars of used
    2-3  Caterpillar equipment out of state and to foreign countries each
    2-4  year; it is the largest heavy equipment and engine dealer in Central
    2-5  and South Texas, representing Caterpillar with over 160 models of
    2-6  machines and 30 models of engines; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Holt Company supplies standby power for Alamo Dome,
    2-8  major hotels, and office buildings; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, This outstanding company has provided 60 years of
   2-10  exceptional service to the people of Texas; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Peter Holt, president and chief
   2-13  executive officer, B. D. Holt, chairman of the board, and the
   2-14  employees of Holt Company of Texas for their invaluable
   2-15  contributions to the State of Texas; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-17  the company to commemorate its 60th anniversary and as an expression
   2-18  of the appreciation and high regard of the Texas Senate.
