    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The occasion of a 100th birthday is an
    1-3  exceptionally splendid one and calls for great celebration, and so
    1-4  it was for Martha Emerine Bozzell Carriker of Mineral Wells, Texas,
    1-5  when she was the guest of honor on her special day; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, One of the oldest native-born residents of
    1-7  Palo Pinto County, Mrs. Carriker was born on March 25, 1893, on
    1-8  the family farm in the Indian Creek Community; she was one of six
    1-9  children born to Joseph Archibald and Martha Reana Lotspiech
   1-10  Bozzell, early pioneers to the area; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, In 1902 the family moved to the new town of
   1-12  Mineral Wells and Martha attended the Little Rock Schoolhouse and
   1-13  the East and West Side Intermediate schools; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, She married Matthew Floyd Carriker on
   1-15  December 12, 1910, and the devoted couple educated their family
   1-16  of three boys and two girls; when Matt died in 1944, Mrs. Carriker
   1-17  worked as a saleslady for many years in the Baker Hotel Dress Shop,
   1-18  Helen's Dress Shop, and Hill's Dress Shoppe; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Mrs. Carriker still lives in her own home in the
   1-20  northeast section of the city she has known since childhood; she
   1-21  takes great care of and pride in her lovely yard and flower garden
   1-22  and is a member of the Dahlia Garden Club; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Well known for her charm, genuineness, and
    2-1  generosity of spirit, this gracious lady is a beloved resident of
    2-2  Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto County; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Blessed with a sweet smile and energetic nature,
    2-4  Martha is noted for her enviable calmness and serenity; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A faithful member of the First Christian Church
    2-6  through the years, she has been a member of the choir and
    2-7  involved in church activities; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Her life continues to be warmed by her friends
    2-9  and family who drop by for daily visits; Martha Carriker is truly
   2-10  deserving of the long and happy life with which she has been blessed;
   2-11  now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby extend warm birthday greetings with
   2-14  many happy returns to Martha Emerine Bozzell Carriker on her
   2-15  100th birthday and declare her a treasured citizen of her town
   2-16  and state; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-18  the esteemed centenarian as a memento of this exceptional milestone
   2-19  in her life.
