1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
1-3 recognize the Texas State Technical College System as it prepares
1-4 to open its new facility on the Harlingen campus; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Costing over $1.4 million, the George F. Young
1-6 Engineering Technology Center, named in honor of the late
1-7 George F. Young, a former Harlingen mayor and one of the founders
1-8 of the Valley campus of Texas State Technical Institute, will be
1-9 officially dedicated on May 14, 1993; and
1-10 WHEREAS, The 30,844 square foot state of the art facility
1-11 is systems oriented; students with mathematics, science, and
1-12 engineering skills in addition to mechanical interests will complete
1-13 course work leading to hands-on experience in a working factory; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The technology center combines automated
1-15 manufacturing, drafting, design, and information technology in a
1-16 cooperative environment where students gain an understanding of
1-17 the complexities of the modern workplace; and
1-18 WHEREAS, The addition of this center adds to Texas State
1-19 Technical College's ability to accomplish its mission of offering
1-20 occupationally oriented programs of study that emphasize highly
1-21 specialized and emerging technical and vocational skills demanded
1-22 by today's economy; now, therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-1 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Texas State Technical
2-2 College on the momentous occasion of the opening of the new
2-3 George F. Young Engineering Technology Center in Harlingen; and,
2-4 be it further
2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-6 the college as a memento of this grand event.
