    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize George R. Willoughby on the occasion of his recent
    1-4  election as Mayor of Santa Fe, Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, George Willoughby was born in 1932 in Tennessee;
    1-6  as a youth he resided in both Tennessee and the State of California;
    1-7  and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A man of deep patriotism, Mr. Willoughby enlisted
    1-9  in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and served
   1-10  proudly for 20 years; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, A member of the 101st Airborne Division, he was
   1-12  stationed in many places around the world and spent a tour of duty
   1-13  in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from the army in 1971,
   1-15  George Willoughby, his wife, Daisy, and their children moved to
   1-16  what was then called Alta Loma in Galveston County; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A respected community leader, George Willoughby
   1-18  was actively involved with a movement to have Alta Loma
   1-19  incorporated into the City of Santa Fe; the effort was successful,
   1-20  and Mr. Willoughby was elected to the City Council of Santa Fe in
   1-21  1986; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A skilled organizer and an able administrator,
   1-23  Mr. Willoughby was elected mayor pro tempore in 1991 and Mayor
    2-1  of Santa Fe on May 1, 1993; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Since his move to the Santa Fe area,
    2-3  George Willoughby has been committed to helping the community grow
    2-4  strong and has fostered numerous neighborhood and citywide projects
    2-5  on behalf of area citizens; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman who is admired by all who
    2-7  know him, George Willoughby has played a major role in the
    2-8  development of the city and Santa Fe residents are fortunate to
    2-9  have such a highly qualified and dedicated leader; now, therefore,
   2-10  be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby commend George Willoughby on his worthy
   2-13  accomplishments and extend congratulations to him on his election
   2-14  as Mayor of Santa Fe; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
