No. 925 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-3 pleasure in congratulating the students graduating from 1-4 Georgetown's Northside Middle School who have completed the 1-5 Drug Abuse Resistance Education program; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The D.A.R.E. program originated in Los Angeles 1-7 in 1983, where it was a joint project of the Los Angeles Police 1-8 Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Introduced in Williamson County in a limited 1-10 way during the 1987-1988 school year, the D.A.R.E. program has 1-11 pleased parents, students, educators, and law enforcement 1-12 officials; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The D.A.R.E. approach is different and effective 1-14 because it teaches children how to refuse drugs and alcohol and 1-15 still maintain their self-image in the face of peer pressure; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Project D.A.R.E. focuses attention on students 1-17 who are in their senior year in elementary school, usually fifth 1-18 or sixth graders; young people this age have not yet been to 1-19 middle school and faced situations in which they are forced, 1-20 usually for the first time, to make decisions that could affect 1-21 their health and their lives forever; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Parents and teachers are very proud of the students 1-23 who have completed the D.A.R.E. program; these superb students have 2-1 brought honor to themselves, their families, and their community 2-2 and are truly worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be 2-3 it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the students graduating 2-6 from Georgetown's Northside Middle School who have completed the 2-7 D.A.R.E. program; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-9 these outstanding young people as an expression of great admiration 2-10 from the Texas Senate. 2-11 _____________________________________ 2-12 President of the Senate 2-13 I hereby certify that the 2-14 above Resolution was adopted by 2-15 the Senate on May 13, 1993. 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 Secretary of the Senate 2-18 _____________________________________ 2-19 Member, Texas Senate
