    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The City of Elsa and the State of Texas are proud
    1-3  to honor Ciro Casares, a gentleman who has devoted his life to
    1-4  his beloved community; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born in Donna, Texas, Mr. Casares moved to Elsa
    1-6  in 1952, where he established a grocery business and quickly
    1-7  became enmeshed in the fabric of community life; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, As mayor of Elsa in the 1970s, Mr. Casares grasped
    1-9  the need for improvements in the quality of life of his fellow
   1-10  citizens and strove to see that they were achieved; influential
   1-11  in bringing a day-care center, a health clinic, the Amigos Del Valle
   1-12  Program, and the Welfare Office to Elsa, Mr. Casares was also
   1-13  instrumental in ensuring that governmental funds were allocated to
   1-14  build the current city hall and the police and fire departments; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, A man of great personal kindness who feels compassion
   1-16  for the distress of others, Mr. Casares is always willing to help
   1-17  the poor and the powerless whether it is with food, clothing, or
   1-18  shelter; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Tireless on behalf of causes he believes in,
   1-20  Mr. Casares served admirably as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts
   1-21  of America and as a member of the Edcouch-Elsa School Board and the
   1-22  Lions Club; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, A devout Catholic, Mr. Casares is a member of
    2-1  Sacred Heart Catholic Church and is actively involved in the
    2-2  Knights of Columbus; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, An extraordinary man who touches the lives of so
    2-4  many, Mr. Casares was honored when his fellow citizens declared
    2-5  May 15, 1993, Ciro Casares Day; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Mr. Casares is always regarded with gratitude and
    2-7  affection by all who know and cherish him; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Ciro Casares for his lifetime
   2-10  of service to others; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
