    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  join with the citizens of Center in commending Doice Grant who
    1-4  is joining his father in business after eight years of notable
    1-5  service as Center High School band director; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The popular director has brought a sense of
    1-7  tremendous pride to Center which has consistently won top honors
    1-8  in Texas in band competition; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The Center High School band traditionally wins
   1-10  University Interscholastic League sweepstakes awards and places
   1-11  students in higher levels of individual competition; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, To preserve and promote military drill marching,
   1-13  Mr. Grant helped organize and served as president of the National
   1-14  Association of Military Bands; the Center band has won best band in
   1-15  its class every year in the competition; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, He has worked diligently throughout the community
   1-17  to develop a comprehensive music program and reorganized the Center
   1-18  Community Band which conducts summer concerts as well as providing
   1-19  musical talent for community events; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Although Mr. Grant is leaving the teaching
   1-21  profession, he will be helping schools with clinics where he
   1-22  will continue to teach music; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Mr. Grant graduated from Stephen F. Austin
    2-1  State University and taught three years in Carthage before
    2-2  becoming band director of the Center High School band program; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Widely recognized for his music acumen
    2-4  and abilities, Mr. Grant has served as president of the
    2-5  Stephen F. Austin Band Alumni Association and as chairman of
    2-6  the Texas Music Educators Association; the esteemed educator
    2-7  offers his expertise as a University Interscholastic League judge
    2-8  and state advisor; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, His gracious manner and professional knowledge have
   2-10  earned him the respect and admiration of all those who have been
   2-11  associated with him; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Doice Grant for exceptional
   2-14  achievements as head of the Center Independent School District band
   2-15  program and extend best wishes to him in his future endeavors; and,
   2-16  be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-18  him as an expression of the admiration and appreciation of the
   2-19  Texas Senate.
