    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize The University of Texas at Austin and the University of
    1-4  Ghana on the historic occasion of their Agreement of Academic and
    1-5  Scientific Cooperation; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Austin and the University
    1-7  of Ghana have entered into an agreement of cooperation to establish
    1-8  a program of academic and scientific exchange and collaboration in
    1-9  areas that are of interest and benefit to both institutions; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The agreement was designed to deepen each
   1-11  institution's understanding of the economic, cultural, and social
   1-12  issues faced by the other and to promote interest in each
   1-13  institution's teaching and research activities; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, To achieve the goals of the agreement,
   1-15  The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Ghana will
   1-16  promote institutional exchanges by inviting faculty and staff of
   1-17  the partner institution to participate in a variety of teaching and
   1-18  research activities and professional development; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The two universities will collaborate on organizing
   1-20  symposia, conferences, short courses, and meetings on research issues;
   1-21  they will carry out joint research and continuing education programs
   1-22  and exchange information pertaining to developments in teaching and
   1-23  research; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The program coordinators for the agreement will
    2-2  distribute to each institution information about the faculty,
    2-3  facilities, research, publications, library materials, and educational
    2-4  resources of the other institution; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, This historic agreement will undoubtedly have
    2-6  far-reaching implications for the communities of both universities as
    2-7  it involves exchanges of students and faculty members and an exchange
    2-8  of a wealth of information regarding each university system and the
    2-9  culture it represents; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, This agreement has been established in the spirit of
   2-11  House Resolution No. 448, 73rd Legislature, which promotes
   2-12  friendship and commerce and mutually beneficial social, economic,
   2-13  educational, and cultural programs involving the people of the
   2-14  State of Texas and the Republic of Ghana; now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  73rd Legislature, hereby commend The University of Texas at Austin
   2-17  and the University of Ghana on establishing this significant
   2-18  Agreement of Academic and Scientific Cooperation; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for both
   2-20  universities as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
