    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The City of Austin is situated in one of the most
    1-3  magnificent natural settings in the state and is blessed with
    1-4  untold beauty and an abundance of exquisite wildlife; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The citizens of the capital city are understandably
    1-6  proud of their surroundings; acutely aware of the fragile nature of
    1-7  their environment, they are also deeply concerned about protecting
    1-8  the precious resource; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, 3M Austin Center has demonstrated exceptional
   1-10  leadership in the Austin vicinity as a responsible corporate
   1-11  steward of wildlife resources and was presented the United States
   1-12  Fish and Wildlife Service's Corporate Wildlife Stewardship Award
   1-13  on March 13, 1993, by Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbit; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The company was selected for the award because of
   1-15  its efforts to protect the endangered golden-cheeked warbler; when
   1-16  the warbler was found on the 3M site, the company immediately began
   1-17  working with the Fish and Wildlife Service to redesign the layout of
   1-18  a planned expansion for a building and a parking lot to preserve
   1-19  12 acres of golden-cheeked warbler habitat that was proposed for
   1-20  development; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Additionally, 3M acquired a 215-acre tract to serve
   1-22  as mitigation for 12 acres of habitat that had to be destroyed for
   1-23  building construction; 3M revegetated 40 acres of the 215-acre site
    2-1  and placed $50,000 in escrow to fund management of the tract which
    2-2  has since been turned over to the Nature Conservancy of Texas; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, 3M acquired the lands to protect wildlife natural
    2-4  resources for future generations and to conduct studies to gather
    2-5  valuable biological information to aid in the future management and
    2-6  protection of endangered species; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, The United States Fish and Wildlife Service's
    2-8  Corporate Wildlife Stewardship Award recognizes efforts on the
    2-9  part of private industry to protect and enhance the nation's fish
   2-10  and wildlife resources; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Its objective is to further the mission of the
   2-12  service through the fostering of cooperative spirits and working
   2-13  relationships with private businesses by honoring their efforts to
   2-14  preserve and enhance the natural resources of our nation; now,
   2-15  therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-17  73rd Legislature, hereby commend 3M Austin Center for its
   2-18  magnificent and generous contributions to preserve the habitat of
   2-19  the golden-cheeked warbler and six other federally listed endangered
   2-20  species so that they might continue to live in their natural home;
   2-21  and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-23  3M Austin Center as an expression of the gratitude and high regard
   2-24  of the Texas Senate.
