    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  commend Wilton A. Lanning, Jr., for his generous contributions
    1-4  to the citizens of Waco; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Lanning was presented the Community Builder
    1-6  Award by the James H. Lockwood Masonic Lodge Number 1343 on
    1-7  May 11, 1993, in recognition of his distinguished service to his
    1-8  community; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Established by the Grand Lodge of Texas, the
   1-10  prestigious award is the highest honor a local Masonic Lodge can
   1-11  bestow on an individual outside its membership and expresses its
   1-12  deep appreciation to the recipient for unselfish efforts to build
   1-13  a better community for all; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, President and Chief Executive Officer of
   1-15  Tom Padget, Incorporated, Mr. Lanning is a highly recognized civic
   1-16  leader who responds to the needs of the residents of Waco; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, He has spent most of his adult life in dedicated
   1-18  service to the people of his beloved city through his involvement
   1-19  in various municipal organizations; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Mr. Lanning has served as the president of the
   1-21  Waco Downtown Rotary Club, the Waco Chamber of Commerce, the
   1-22  Young Men's Christian Association Board, and the Waco Business
   1-23  League; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The esteemed individual has freely offered his
    2-2  expertise as chairman of the Waco Convention and Tourism Board
    2-3  and as trustee and secretary of the Board of the Hillcrest Baptist
    2-4  Medical Center; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, His dream to restore the original Dr. Pepper plant
    2-6  and convert it into a Dr. Pepper Museum was realized 38 years after
    2-7  it was damaged by a tornado that struck the Waco business district
    2-8  in 1953; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Wilton Lanning's exemplary life is truly an
   2-10  inspiration to those who have been privileged to know and work with
   2-11  him and he is truly worthy of the honor bestowed on him; now,
   2-12  therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  73rd Legislature, hereby join with the members of James H. Lockwood
   2-15  Masonic Lodge Number 1343 in expressing appreciation to
   2-16  Wilton A. Lanning, Jr., for his exceptional achievements; and, be
   2-17  it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-19  this remarkable Texan as an expression of the admiration and high
   2-20  regard of the Texas Senate.
