By: Shelley S.R. No. 980 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes 1-3 Father Joseph A. Gietl for his seven years of loyal service as 1-4 pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby, Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born September 28, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, the 1-6 son of Joseph A. Gietl, Sr., and Kathleen A. Dalton Gietl, 1-7 Joseph Gietl graduated from Sacred Heart School of Theology; and 1-8 WHEREAS, He was ordained in Hales Corners, Wisconsin, by 1-9 Bishop Joseph DePalma on September 1, 1973, and became an 1-10 Assistant Pastor at Christ the King Church in Mississippi; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Deeply patriotic, Father Gietl served his country 1-12 in the United States Marine Corps and has been an active leader in 1-13 his community and in various religious organizations throughout 1-14 his life; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A member of the Knights of Columbus, fourth degree, 1-16 he has worked with the Newman Club and the Retrouvaille Family Life 1-17 Office; he is chaplain to Catholic Daughters of America-Crosby and 1-18 spiritual director of Knights of Columbus Number 3229; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A man of many interests and talents, Father Gietl 1-20 enjoys travel, cooking, sports, and photography and is an avid 1-21 golfer; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Father Gietl became pastor of Sacred Heart Church 1-23 on November 3, 1986, and will continue to serve there until 2-1 July 1, 1993, when he becomes pastor of Saint Ambrose Church in 2-2 Houston, Texas; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Over the last seven years, Father Gietl has 2-4 ministered faithfully to the needs of innumerable Christians; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Inspirational and caring, this beloved pastor has 2-6 dedicated his time and energy unselfishly to the members of his 2-7 church and to the residents of Crosby; and 2-8 WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Father Gietl 2-9 has performed countless ceremonies and has prayed for and counselled 2-10 his church members during their hardships and in times of 2-11 bereavement; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Many Harris County citizens are grateful for 2-13 the positive influence Father Gietl has had in their lives; now, 2-14 therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 73rd Legislature, hereby join with the members of Sacred Heart 2-17 Catholic Church in commending Father Gietl for his fervent 2-18 service to the church, his fellowman, and his community; and, 2-19 be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-21 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-22 _____________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the 2-25 above Resolution was adopted by 3-1 the Senate on May 20, 1993. 3-2 _____________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 _____________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
