By: Haley S.R. No. 986 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize Elmer R. Mathews who is retiring from the position of 1-4 principal at Fellowship Elementary School after 32 years with the 1-5 Joaquin Independent School District and 37 years in the field of 1-6 education; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Mr. Mathews began his successful career in 1956 1-8 as a sixth grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He joined Fellowship Elementary School in 1961 as 1-10 principal and was largely responsible for fostering the familial 1-11 ambience that exists today and for nurturing the pride that the 1-12 students, faculty, and staff now take in their school; and 1-13 WHEREAS, An exceptionally gifted and dedicated 1-14 administrator, Elmer Mathews is respected by his colleagues in 1-15 education and beloved by the students of Fellowship Elementary 1-16 School; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Resourceful and hardworking, Mr. Mathews 1-18 skillfully handled the complexities and far-reaching 1-19 responsibilities of a high school principal; and 1-20 WHEREAS, An exemplary principal, Mr. Mathews was active 1-21 in a number of school organizations; he served as University 1-22 Interscholastic League Director on the district level for 12 1-23 different years, was president, vice-president, and treasurer of 2-1 the Joaquin Athletic Boosters for six years, and worked closely 2-2 with the Joaquin Parent-Teacher Association for 32 years; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Due to Mr. Mathews's superior leadership, numerous 2-4 Fellowship Elementary School students have distinguished themselves 2-5 at high schools and universities and in business, professional, and 2-6 public services; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Mr. Mathews has played a major role in making 2-8 Fellowship Elementary School the exceptional school it is today; 2-9 now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 73rd Legislature, hereby express sincere appreciation to 2-12 Elmer Mathews for his notable achievements and his years of 2-13 dedication to the field of education; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-15 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the 2-19 above Resolution was adopted by 2-20 the Senate on May 20, 1993. 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
