    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, One of our state's most cherished assets is our
    1-3  young people who will become tomorrow's leaders and statesmen; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Their education and character development are of vital
    1-5  importance to all Texans; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-7  recognize Dr. Joe E. Manry of San Antonio's Robert E. Lee High School
    1-8  on being awarded Honorable Mention in the 1993 Outstanding Teaching
    1-9  of the Humanities awards competition; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A teacher for 30 years, Dr. Manry has been at
   1-11  Robert E. Lee High School for 11 years and teaches humanities,
   1-12  theatre, English, social sciences, and speech; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, These awards are presented to teachers of history,
   1-14  literature, foreign languages, government, social studies, and
   1-15  related fields in the state's elementary, middle, and high schools;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Six Outstanding Teachers and eight Honorable Mentions
   1-18  were chosen from a field of 135 highly qualified nominees; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Dr. Manry is a remarkably effective teacher who has
   1-20  demonstrated continued excellence in a vitally important teaching
   1-21  field; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A diligent and hardworking educator, Dr. Manry
   1-23  is also quite active in civic affairs and is a member of the National
    2-1  Council for Teachers of English, the Texas Council for Teachers of
    2-2  English, and the Texas Humanities Alliance; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, This dedicated educator greatly deserves legislative
    2-4  recognition for his gifts and talents; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Joe E. Manry for being selected
    2-7  for Honorable Mention in the Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities
    2-8  awards competition; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  Dr. Manry as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
