    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Marcia Katz was chosen recently as the
    1-3  1993 Social Worker of the Year for the Texas Association of Homes
    1-4  for the Aging, and the Texas Senate is pleased to congratulate her
    1-5  on receiving this notable award; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Homes for the Aging
    1-7  represents 130 nonprofit retirement and long-term care communities
    1-8  in Texas; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Texas residents are enjoying longer lives and as our
   1-10  population ages it becomes more critical to provide adequate care
   1-11  for those who can no longer care for themselves; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Director of Social Work Services at Morningside
   1-13  Manor in San Antonio since 1989, Mrs. Katz has established a
   1-14  social services department to meet the psycho-social needs of
   1-15  385 residents and their families and 320 staff members; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A caring and compassionate individual, Mrs. Katz
   1-17  deals with the problems of the residents of Morningside Manor
   1-18  daily; she listens attentively while offering support and
   1-19  consolation and assisting them to cope with their situation; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Mrs. Katz is committed to helping older people do
   1-21  something constructive with their lives and to developing in them
   1-22  a sense of accomplishment; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Well qualified for her position, Mrs. Katz earned
    2-1  a bachelor's degree in social work from Temple University in
    2-2  Philadelphia in 1969 and a master's degree from Boston University
    2-3  in 1974; she has 23 years of experience in social work; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, She not only helps residents adjust to their new
    2-5  environment but works intensely with families to be partners in
    2-6  their care; Mrs. Katz has set up support groups and workshops to
    2-7  educate all those involved; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Sharing her time and abilities with others in
    2-9  the community, Marcia Katz is a field practicum instructor for
   2-10  social workers from Our Lady of the Lake Worden School of Social
   2-11  Work and trains leaders of support services through her work with
   2-12  the Alzheimer's Association; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, She is also second vice-president of
   2-14  Jonathan Netanyahu Academy where she chairs the grievance committee
   2-15  and serves on the library and fundraising committees; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, Despite her demanding career, Mrs. Katz is a devoted
   2-17  wife and mother who participates in the activities of her daughters,
   2-18  Rachel and Nomi, and supports her husband, Sanford, in his new
   2-19  business; now, therefore, be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-21  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Marcia Katz on her exceptional
   2-22  contributions to the citizens of San Antonio and extend best wishes
   2-23  to her for continued success; and, be it further
   2-24        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-25  her as an expression of the admiration and appreciation of the
    3-1  Texas Senate.
