    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, A senior at The University of Texas at Austin
    1-3  majoring in journalism and government, Thien Huong Tran has
    1-4  served with distinction as an intern in the office of
    1-5  Representative Senfronia Thompson for the 73rd Legislative Session
    1-6  in Senator Rodney Ellis's internship program; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, She had the unique opportunity to interact with
    1-8  members of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches while
    1-9  gaining practical work experience in the political environment; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Rodney Ellis Professional Internship Program
   1-11  for minority students combines academic study with experimental
   1-12  learning for undergraduate and graduate students interested in
   1-13  the political process; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The internship is for one academic semester in
   1-15  Austin where students are placed as assistants in the offices of
   1-16  ranking members of the legislature or in state agencies; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Thien has had extensive experience in the journalism
   1-18  field having been a staff writer and editor of Tejas Magazine and
   1-19  assistant managing editor for The Daily Texan; she has worked as a
   1-20  copy editor for the Austin American-Statesman and has served a
   1-21  reporting internship on The Houston Post; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, An exceptional student who is dedicated to
   1-23  accomplishing her goals, Thien has received numerous academic
    2-1  honors including a National Merit Scholarship, a University of Texas
    2-2  Scholastic Achievement Scholarship, and membership in the Golden Key
    2-3  National Honor Society; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A member of several honorary journalism
    2-5  organizations, Thien also volunteers her time and talents to the
    2-6  Creative Rapid Learning Center and the Center for Battered Women
    2-7  while maintaining a 3.5 Grade Point Average; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize
    2-9  Thien Huong Tran for her outstanding work as an intern in the
   2-10  office of Representative Senfronia Thompson; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Thien Huong Tran for her important
   2-13  contributions to the State of Texas and extend best wishes to her
   2-14  for success in her future endeavors; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  Thien as an expression of the esteem of the Texas Senate.
