    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Gwendolyn Thompson, a graduate student
    1-3  at Texas Southern University majoring in public affairs,
    1-4  has served with distinction as an intern in the office of
    1-5  Representative Hugo Berlanga for the 73rd Legislative Session
    1-6  in Senator Rodney Ellis's internship program; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, She had the unique opportunity to interact with
    1-8  members of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches while
    1-9  gaining practical work experience in the political environment; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Rodney Ellis Professional Internship Program
   1-11  for minority students combines academic study with experimental
   1-12  learning for undergraduate and graduate students interested in
   1-13  the political process; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The internship is for one academic semester in
   1-15  Austin where students are placed as assistants in the offices
   1-16  of ranking members of the legislature or in state agencies; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, After receiving a bachelor of business
   1-18  administration degree in 1986, Gwendolyn decided to pursue
   1-19  a degree in public affairs and will graduate this month from
   1-20  Texas Southern University; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Assistant manager of a Walgreen Drug Store in
   1-22  Houston responsible for 10 employees and in charge of merchandising
   1-23  and shipping, Gwendolyn has demonstrated considerable talent with
    2-1  the nationwide retail store and has earned the confidence and
    2-2  admiration of her employers; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize
    2-4  Gwendolyn J. Thompson for her outstanding work as an intern
    2-5  in the office of Representative Berlanga; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Gwendolyn Thompson for her
    2-8  important contributions to the State of Texas and extend best
    2-9  wishes to her for continued success in her future endeavors; and,
   2-10  be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
   2-12  for Gwendolyn Thompson as an expression of the esteem of the
   2-13  Texas Senate.
