    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is extremely
    1-3  proud to recognize Virginia Martin Yaklin, a longtime and prominent
    1-4  educator who will be retiring this year from an illustrious 31-year
    1-5  career; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Born on February 9, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas,
    1-7  to Georgie and Cleve Hawkins, "Chinna" and her family moved to
    1-8  Kingsville and she grew to adulthood there; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, After attending Henrietta M. King High School,
   1-10  Mrs. Yaklin entered Texas A&I University and graduated with a
   1-11  bachelor of arts degree; she began her teaching career in
   1-12  Bishop, Texas, and began working in the Brazosport Independent
   1-13  School District in 1964; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, An inspiring and gifted language arts and English
   1-15  teacher, Mrs. Yaklin captured the imagination and attention of her
   1-16  students, thereby bestowing on them the great gift of a lifelong
   1-17  interest in learning and growing intellectually; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Active in professional associations, Mrs. Yaklin
   1-19  is a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, the American
   1-20  Federation of Teachers, and the Texas Council of Teachers of English
   1-21  and worked with the Superintendent's Forum, the At-Risk Program,
   1-22  and the Student Council; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, She has dedicated her life to providing an excellent
    2-1  education for the youth of the Brazosport Independent School District
    2-2  and has been a role model for those who are involved in administering
    2-3  programs for young people; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, It is indeed fitting and appropriate that the
    2-5  Texas Senate honor Virginia Martin Yaklin on the momentous occasion
    2-6  of her retirement from 29 years of teaching at Lake Jackson
    2-7  Intermediate School; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the meritorious
   2-10  service of Virginia Martin Yaklin and extend sincere appreciation
   2-11  to her for her constant support of the continuation and improvement
   2-12  of the education of all Texas citizens; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
   2-14  for Mrs. Yaklin as an expression of appreciation from the
   2-15  Texas Senate.
