    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                             Laura C. Rook
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Crosby in mourning the untimely loss of Laura C. Rook
    1-7  who died May 10, 1993, at the age of 22; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Houston, Laura Rook was a lifelong resident
    1-9  of the Crosby area; she graduated in 1990 from Humble High School
   1-10  where she was a popular student and beloved by the faculty and by
   1-11  her classmates; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, A talented athlete and outdoors enthusiast, Laura
   1-13  was a member of TIRR Sports-Houston Challenger's Swim Team; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Amazingly courageous and inspiring, Laura was an
   1-15  exemplary young woman whose valor in the face of her illness
   1-16  touched the lives of many; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, In spite of her difficult battle, she consistently
   1-18  manifested uncommon concern for others and was sensitive, generous,
   1-19  caring, and befriending; Laura's sister stated that living with
   1-20  Laura was to "know what it's like to live with an angel"; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A source of strength and joy to her family, Laura
   1-22  lived her life to the fullest--rich in friendships, love, and
   1-23  cherished experiences; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, A devout Christian and community volunteer, Laura
    2-2  was a member of First Baptist Church of Crosby and a volunteer for
    2-3  the Crosby Chamber of Commerce and Newport Elementary School; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Laura was a devoted daughter, sister, and
    2-5  granddaughter whose life will continue to live on forever in the
    2-6  hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
    2-7  be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-10  bereaved family of Laura C. Rook:  her parents, Richard and
   2-11  Dee Ann Rook; her sister, Lee Ann Lockwood; her grandparents,
   2-12  Tommy and Jeannette Denson and Elsie Rook; her niece,
   2-13  Emily Lockwood; her aunt and uncle, Patricia and Carl Chase;
   2-14  her cousin, Sarah; and a number of other aunts, uncles, and
   2-15  cousins; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-17  members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-18  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-19  in memory of Laura C. Rook.
