    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                    Wilburn Vernel "Willie" McAlpin
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas
    1-6  joins with the citizens of Sudan in mourning the loss of
    1-7  Wilburn Vernel "Willie" McAlpin who died February 22, 1993, at
    1-8  the age of 59; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Born in Spur, Texas, Wilburn McAlpin
   1-10  moved to Sudan from Cameron in 1984; he was a graduate of
   1-11  West Texas State University and a United States Navy veteran; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Willie McAlpin was dedicated to his work in
   1-13  the fields of education and athletics; he had served as head
   1-14  football coach and athletic director at Muleshoe High School until
   1-15  his resignation in 1967; he then coached at Beeville Independent
   1-16  School District and Canyon schools as an assistant football coach;
   1-17  and
   1-18        WHEREAS, He became an administrative assistant
   1-19  for the Canyon Independent School District and later served as
   1-20  superintendent of the Sudan Independent School District; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A well-known civic leader, he was president of
   1-22  Canyon Lions Club and director of the Canyon Chamber of Commerce
   1-23  until his retirement in 1983; he also was a member of Canyon Parks
    2-1  and Recreation Board, the Eye Bank, Crippled Children's Camp, the
    2-2  Sudan Masonic Lodge, and the Sudan Lions Club; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
    2-4  he gave unselfishly of his time to others; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, he was a member of the
    2-6  United Methodist Church where he was a certified lay speaker; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, His wisdom, warm spirit, and valued counsel will not
    2-8  be forgotten by those who knew him; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Willie McAlpin was a devoted husband, father, and
   2-10  grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
   2-11  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
   2-14  of his family:  his wife, Jackie Lois Timberlake McAlpin; his son,
   2-15  Kevin S. McAlpin; his daughters, Stacy R. Gatlin and Tracy L. Rice;
   2-16  his mother, Mary F. McAlpin; his brother, Chester N. McAlpin; and
   2-17  his three grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-19  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-20  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-21  in memory of Wilburn Vernel "Willie" McAlpin.
