1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory
1-3 of
1-4 Roy Sanchez Padilla
1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
1-6 citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of former city
1-7 councilman and state boxing commissioner Roy Sanchez Padilla,
1-8 who died May 18, 1993, at the age of 79; and
1-9 WHEREAS, He will be remembered for his contributions
1-10 throughout his life to the economic and social development of
1-11 San Antonio; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Born in Eagle Pass, Texas, on October 27, 1913,
1-13 Mr. Padilla moved to San Antonio with his family at a very early
1-14 age; he graduated from Main Avenue High School and a business
1-15 college; and
1-16 WHEREAS, An astute businessman, Roy Padilla founded the
1-17 AAA Delivery Service in 1946 and A&A Realtors in 1967; and
1-18 WHEREAS, He served as president of the Mexican-American
1-19 Chamber of Commerce in 1959 and was appointed to fill a vacancy
1-20 on the San Antonio City Council in 1960; as a member of the Good
1-21 Government League he won reelection to his council seat in 1961
1-22 and 1963; and
1-23 WHEREAS, A gregarious individual who loved people,
2-1 Mr. Padilla was a member of numerous social organizations; he
2-2 belonged to the Optimist Club and helped found and served as
2-3 president of the Optimist Club chapter in Corpus Christi; and
2-4 WHEREAS, He was an avid sportsman who loved to play golf
2-5 and to take his family deep-sea fishing in Corpus Christi; he was
2-6 also a boxing promoter and served the state as boxing commissioner
2-7 for many years; and
2-8 WHEREAS, In devoting much of his time to the betterment of
2-9 his community, the respected individual achieved recognition in his
2-10 work as one of the founders of the Mexican American Legal Defense
2-11 and Educational Fund and as a member of the League of United Latin
2-12 American Citizens No. 2; and
2-13 WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment
2-14 that will be cherished by those who lived and worked with him; now,
2-15 therefore, be it
2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-17 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
2-18 of Roy Sanchez Padilla: his wife, Hortencia; his daughter and
2-19 son-in-law, Gloria and Daniel Seaton; and his grandsons,
2-20 Kermit C. Seaton and Daniel R. Seaton; and, be it further
2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-22 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-23 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
2-24 it do so in memory of Roy Sanchez Padilla.
