    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
    1-3  in recognizing Jefferey Jimenez who recently was selected as one
    1-4  of 10 finalists in the 36th annual San Antonio Express-News
    1-5  Outstanding Teen Contest; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The San Antonio Express-News designed the
    1-7  Outstanding Teen Contest in 1957 and has continued the tradition
    1-8  of honoring 10 high school seniors who represent the highest
    1-9  standards of citizenship; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Candidates are selected for demonstrating
   1-11  excellence in a variety of fields and for demonstrating character
   1-12  and versatility; included in the criteria are consistency in
   1-13  academic achievement, leadership ability, participation in
   1-14  extracurricular school activities, community service, and other
   1-15  exceptional qualities; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A senior at South San Antonio High School,
   1-17  Jefferey ranks second in his class with a grade point average of
   1-18  98.7; he is president of the science club and has been the driving
   1-19  force behind the club's strong stance on environmental issues; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In tribute to his outstanding community service,
   1-21  Jefferey was honored by a national organization, the Giraffe Project;
   1-22  he has led the science club in its recycling projects, tree-planting
   1-23  campaigns, campus landscaping, and beautification projects; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Other honors include the Project Goal Award from
    2-2  the David Robinson Foundation and Student of the Week, sponsored
    2-3  by the Express-News and KWEX-TV; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Exceptionally bright and talented, Jefferey interned
    2-5  last year at Texas A&M University in the Research Apprenticeship
    2-6  Program, a program that enabled him to pursue his interest in
    2-7  genetics and biochemistry; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, A young man of integrity, sensitivity, and concern
    2-9  for others and his community, Jefferey will attend Vassar College
   2-10  and major in biochemistry and pre-med; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Jefferey Jimenez for his
   2-13  exceptional accomplishments and extend congratulations to him
   2-14  for earning the position of finalist in this year's Outstanding
   2-15  Teen Contest; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-17  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
