    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
    1-3  recognizing Lindsey Franklin, Jr., who recently was selected as one
    1-4  of 10 finalists in the 36th annual San Antonio Express-News
    1-5  Outstanding Teen Contest; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The San Antonio Express-News designed the
    1-7  Outstanding Teen Contest in 1957 and has continued the tradition
    1-8  of honoring 10 high school seniors who represent the highest
    1-9  standards of citizenship; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Candidates are selected for demonstrating
   1-11  excellence in a variety of fields and for demonstrating character
   1-12  and versatility; included in the criteria are consistency in academic
   1-13  achievement, leadership ability, participation in extracurricular
   1-14  school activities, community service, and other exceptional
   1-15  qualities; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A senior at Sam Houston High School, Lindsey is
   1-17  an exceptionally gifted student who excels in athletics, art,
   1-18  mathematics, and English; he is noted for his charcoal sketches
   1-19  of school life and his poetry, which has been published in the
   1-20  High School Writer, a national newspaper; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A leader in the community, Lindsey is a volunteer
   1-22  with the Red Cross, president of the Fellowship of Christian
   1-23  Athletes, and an active member of the Business Club; he is also
    2-1  chaplain for the National Honor Society and has arranged several
    2-2  community service activities for the organization; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Lindsey Franklin is a perceptive, mature, generous,
    2-4  and highly intelligent individual; he plans to attend the University
    2-5  of Tulsa and major in aerospace engineering; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Lindsey Franklin, Jr., for his
    2-8  exceptional accomplishments and extend congratulations to him for
    2-9  earning the position of finalist in this year's Outstanding Teen
   2-10  Contest; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-12  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
