No. 1059 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 1-3 in recognizing Sabrena Londres who recently was selected as one 1-4 of 10 finalists in the 36th annual San Antonio Express-News 1-5 Outstanding Teen Contest; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The San Antonio Express-News designed the 1-7 Outstanding Teen Contest in 1957 and has continued the tradition 1-8 of honoring 10 high school seniors who represent the highest 1-9 standards of citizenship; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Candidates are selected for demonstrating 1-11 excellence in a variety of fields and for demonstrating character 1-12 and versatility; included in the criteria are consistency in 1-13 academic achievement, leadership ability, participation in 1-14 extracurricular school activities, community service, and other 1-15 exceptional qualities; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A senior at Jefferson High School in San Antonio, 1-17 17-year-old Sabrena is a member of the National Honor Society and 1-18 the English Society and president of the Youth Achievement Club; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Sabrena has already received recognition for her 1-20 poetry and her dancing; she has been invited to participate in a 1-21 United Nations event in Washington, D.C., this summer to raise 1-22 money for UNICEF where she will recite and dance a peace poem; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Sabrena won first place and received $500 in the 2-1 Texas Folklife Festival Heritage Essay Contest and first prize in 2-2 a creative story contest in Our Kids magazine; she has also had 2-3 her work published in her school's English Honor Society magazine; 2-4 and 2-5 WHEREAS, A member of Jefferson's Lasso and Dance Team, she 2-6 performs for school events and has danced on the television show, 2-7 "Jammin'"; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Among her many accomplishments are an invention 2-9 award from Invent America for a doll she designed and a San Antonio 2-10 Spirit award by KMOL-TV for volunteering many hours to help 2-11 Elf Louise; and 2-12 WHEREAS, After graduation the versatile student plans to 2-13 work a year before studying to become a psychiatrist; now, 2-14 therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 73rd Legislature, hereby commend Sabrena Londres for her 2-17 exceptional accomplishments and extend congratulations to her 2-18 for earning the position of finalist in this year's Outstanding 2-19 Teen Contest; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-21 for Sabrena as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-22 _____________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the 2-25 above Resolution was adopted by 3-1 the Senate on May 25, 1993. 3-2 _____________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 _____________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
