No. 1065 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize the faculty, staff, and students of Laurel Mountain 1-4 Elementary School for being designated a Blue Ribbon School; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Laurel Mountain Elementary School is one of 20 1-6 public and private schools in Texas to win this coveted honor; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The United States Department of Education paid a 1-8 two-day visit to the school to investigate whether or not Laurel 1-9 Mountain should be named a national exemplary school; the 1-10 investigators interviewed parents and administrators, visited 1-11 classes, and talked with leadership teams; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The criteria by which the schools were judged 1-13 included high student achievement, innovation, commitment to 1-14 effective curricula, and parental involvement; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Teachers at the school give the lion's share of 1-16 the credit to Principal Eleece Moffatt who inspires them to 1-17 achieve excellence; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This well-deserved recognition is a signal honor; 1-19 only .003 percent of schools nationwide win the Blue Ribbon Award, 1-20 the highest honor a school can receive from the United States 1-21 Department of Education; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The citizens, students, and faculty held a surprise 1-23 "Eleece Moffatt Appreciation Day Ceremony" for the beloved principal; 2-1 the children honored her and her efforts at Laurel Mountain since 2-2 it opened its doors eight years ago; the mayor of Round Rock and 2-3 other leading dignitaries joined the group as it paid homage to 2-4 Principal Moffatt and the success of the school; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Laurel Mountain School truly deserves legislative 2-6 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend Laurel Mountain 2-9 Elementary School for winning this sought-after recognition; and, 2-10 be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-12 for Laurel Mountain School as an expression of pride from the 2-13 Texas Senate. 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the 2-17 above Resolution was adopted by 2-18 the Senate on May 25, 1993. 2-19 _____________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
