No. 1068 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The community of Weches in Houston County is one 1-3 of the oldest settlements in the state, having been settled before 1-4 1847; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The hamlet was first called "Neches," but when the 1-6 citizens applied for a post office that name had already been taken 1-7 by another town; and 1-8 WHEREAS, With commendable initiative, the townspeople 1-9 substituted "Weches," which is the present name of the community; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, The people of Weches have been burying their 1-12 departed loved ones in the Weches Cemetery for more than 100 years, 1-13 so that the cemetery is now full and needs to acquire land for 1-14 expansion; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Weches Cemetery is substantially surrounded by land 1-16 belonging to the Parks and Wildlife Department; and 1-17 WHEREAS, It is in the public interest for persons in the 1-18 vicinity of Weches Cemetery to have an easily accessible place for 1-19 their funeral ceremonies and burials; now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-21 73rd Legislature, hereby direct the Parks and Wildlife Department 1-22 to negotiate with the Weches Cemetery Association in Houston County 1-23 for the sale of one acre of real property at an agreed price. 2-1 _____________________________________ 2-2 President of the Senate 2-3 I hereby certify that the 2-4 above Resolution was adopted by 2-5 the Senate on May 25, 1993. 2-6 _____________________________________ 2-7 Secretary of the Senate 2-8 _____________________________________ 2-9 Member, Texas Senate
