No. 1072 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize Julia Marie Lightner Johnson on the auspicious occasion 1-4 of her 60th birthday on May 26, 1993; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in Taylor, Texas, on May 26, 1933, Julia 1-6 was the youngest of four children; her three older brothers, 1-7 Theodore, Edward, and Raymond, kept a protective, watchful eye 1-8 on their little sister; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Julia Lightner married William S. Johnson in 1951; 1-10 they have three children, Billy, Teresa, and Joanne, and five 1-11 wonderful grandchildren, Allan, Justin, Ethan, Matthew, and Rachel; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, Throughout her busy and interesting life, Julia 1-14 has been a major participant in volunteer work centered around 1-15 her church, her children, and her politics; she was vice-president 1-16 of the state Parent-Teacher Association as well as president at 1-17 the local and district levels; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Well known in the corridors of power, Julia has 1-19 worked in the legislature since 1973 when she became Representative 1-20 Wilson Foreman's administrative assistant; in 1975 through 1978 she 1-21 worked for Senator Frank Lombardino as his administrative assistant; 1-22 from 1979 through 1981 she worked for Senator Carlos Truan; and 1-23 from 1981 through 1984 she worked for Representative George Pierce; 2-1 she is presently an indispensable administrative assistant for 2-2 Senator Buster Brown; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Julia enjoys singing with her church choir; they 2-4 have been to the Mozart Festival in Salzburg and have taken a trip 2-5 to Rome at the invitation of the Pope; Julia also directs the music 2-6 at Saint Charles Catholic Church near the family's weekend lake 2-7 house; and 2-8 WHEREAS, This indefatigable lady orchestrates the renowned 2-9 sine die sing-a-long parties that Senator Brown gives at the end 2-10 of each session and composes unique lyrics to Christmas carols at 2-11 the Senate's annual Christmas party; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Noted for her exemplary enthusiasm, Julia Johnson 2-13 is shepherding a fifth office staff through a Regular Session; 2-14 along the way, she provides a lot of Texas history, some long-term 2-15 legislative history, and Czech sayings and songs; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Spirited and energetic in her neighborhood, Julia 2-17 organizes a yearly Easter egg hunt and visit from Santa Claus; 2-18 she has helped create a road and a park with the North Oak 2-19 Neighborhood Association; and 2-20 WHEREAS, In her spare time, Julia enjoys playing bridge 2-21 with her friends; President of the Travis County Republican Women's 2-22 Club from 1990 through 1992, she is currently President of the 2-23 Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary; this beloved Senate staffer 2-24 says she looks forward to her retirement when she will study 2-25 genealogy and spend more time with her grandchildren; and 3-1 WHEREAS, It is indeed fitting and appropriate that the 3-2 Senate wish this celebrated and extraordinary lady a very happy 3-3 birthday; now, therefore, be it 3-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-5 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere birthday greetings to 3-6 Julia Marie Lightner Johnson on the momentous occasion of her 3-7 60th birthday; and, be it further 3-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 3-9 for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 3-10 Brown 3-11 Armbrister Lucio Shapiro 3-12 Barrientos Luna Shelley 3-13 Bivins Madla Sibley 3-14 Carriker Moncrief Sims 3-15 Ellis Montford Truan 3-16 Haley Nelson Turner 3-17 Harris of Dallas Parker Wentworth 3-18 Harris of Tarrant Patterson West 3-19 Henderson Ratliff Whitmire 3-20 Leedom Rosson Zaffirini 3-21 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-22 _____________________________________ 3-23 President of the Senate 3-24 I hereby certify that the 3-25 above Resolution was adopted by 4-1 the Senate on May 26, 1993. 4-2 _____________________________________ 4-3 Secretary of the Senate 4-4 _____________________________________ 4-5 Member, Texas Senate
