No. 1073 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The employees of the McAllen Sector of the 1-3 United States Immigration and Naturalization Service and citizens 1-4 of the Rio Grande Valley will miss the dedication and expertise 1-5 of Chief Patrol Agent Silvestre Reyes who is returning to his 1-6 hometown of El Paso after eight years of exceptional service as 1-7 Chief Patrol Agent; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Courageous and patriotic, Silvestre Reyes served 1-9 his nation honorably as a helicopter crew chief in the 1-10 United States Army from 1966 to 1968; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Agent Reyes began his career with the 1-12 United States Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1-13 June, 1969; he worked for the border patrol detecting, 1-14 apprehending, and processing aliens; he served as Prosecution 1-15 Officer in anti-smuggling operations and the training of new 1-16 officers; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Agent Reyes's splendid record in the line 1-18 of duty earned him continual promotions in the course of his 1-19 career; he was promoted to Supervisory Immigration Inspector, 1-20 Deputy Regional Chief, Assistant Regional Commissioner, and 1-21 finally to Chief Patrol Agent of the United States Border Patrol 1-22 of the McAllen Sector; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Since 1986, the McAllen Sector has been repeatedly 2-1 cited as one of the most successful narcotics interdiction areas 2-2 in the nation; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Chief Patrol Agent Reyes has been responsible 2-4 for implementing highly effective and innovative programs in the 2-5 Immigration and Naturalization Service; these include canine 2-6 detection units, school drug education programs, horse patrol, 2-7 boat patrol, and community support programs; this sector is widely 2-8 known for its support within the community and for its 2-9 professionalism and courtesy; and 2-10 WHEREAS, His splendid record in the line of duty includes 2-11 spending November and December of 1987 as Officer in Charge at 2-12 the Atlanta Penitentiary; Agent Reyes and 100 men conducted a 2-13 clean-up operation after the Cuban inmates in the prison rioted, 2-14 burned, and took control of the facility; Agent Reyes's courage 2-15 under such duress showed his outstanding bravery; and 2-16 WHEREAS, His diligence and ability in the performance of 2-17 his duties have been truly impressive; now, therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-19 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend Chief Patrol 2-20 Agent Silvestre Reyes for his illustrious career in law enforcement 2-21 and wish him great success in the years ahead; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-23 Agent Reyes as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-24 _____________________________________ 2-25 President of the Senate 3-1 I hereby certify that the 3-2 above Resolution was adopted by 3-3 the Senate on May 26, 1993. 3-4 _____________________________________ 3-5 Secretary of the Senate 3-6 _____________________________________ 3-7 Member, Texas Senate
