No. 1074 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize the Valley Proud Environmental Council which has been 1-4 honored by being named the 1993 recipient of the Texas Urban 1-5 Forestry Council Award in the "Civic Organization with Project 1-6 Budget Greater than $25,000" category; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The project, Valley Arbor Week/Arboles de Amistad, 1-8 has as its purpose the commendable goal of planting 2,000,000 trees 1-9 by the year 2000; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In addition to planting trees, the project hopes 1-11 to educate the residents of the 20 cooperating communities in three 1-12 Valley counties, along with neighboring communities in Mexico, about 1-13 planting native varieties of trees, shrubs, and plants that are 1-14 drought-resistant and disease-resistant; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Besides planting trees and educating citizens, 1-16 the project coordinators hope to establish a framework for on-going 1-17 environmental and tree-planting plans; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The Valley Proud Environmental Council is 1-19 headquartered in Harlingen; representatives from the group were 1-20 present to accept their award at the Seventh Annual Texas Urban 1-21 Forestry Conference held in Austin, May 19 through May 21, 1993; 1-22 now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 73rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the Valley Proud 2-2 Environmental Council for establishing this admirable project; and, 2-3 be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of the Resolution be prepared for 2-5 the council as an expression of high regard and esteem from the 2-6 Texas Senate. 2-7 _____________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the 2-10 above Resolution was adopted by 2-11 the Senate on May 26, 1993. 2-12 _____________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
